General mIRC Commands

To make a 'self description' or talk about yourself in the channel simply type /me talks about herself

To change your nickname in the channel simply type /nick Cheater

If you type ~ you will get a hint of the first letter of the answer to a trivia question. This does not work for answers that are numbers.

If you feel you are lagging you can check by typing !pingme

The higher the number returned, the greater the lag. You can try to change servers to speed things up. Type /links and another window will open. You can double click on one of the servers listed. Usually the same one that Loftbot is on works best, if you can get into it. You can tell from the !pingme reply which server Loftbot is on.

If there is someone annoying you in the channel you can put them on ignore. You will then not see anything they type. Just type /ignore nickname . They will not be notified that you have put them on ignore. You will see a message in the channel window or in the Austnet window that confirms your setting.
To take them off ignore type /ignore -r nickname.

Trivialoft Fun

Some fun things in Trivialoft include

Type !quote tiara to see something funny that was said in channel about a tiara (for example). There are hundreds of quotes to enjoy. Please feel free to send in something funny you see in the channel. Just private message Loftbot and paste the text in there.

Moose is an alternate answer for many Canadian questions, just for fun. Get Stuffed is also an alternate answer for some of the impossible questions.

Some helpful things in Trivialoft inclue:

If you see a question that has a spelling error or an incorrect answer you can add a !fix to the bot. (All fixes are done as soon as possible.) an example follows:

[Loftbot] 003.1572 Australiana: What country did Skylab hit ? YES, ling`!!! got the answer -> australia <- in 4.888 secs, and gets 835 Points

You would type in the channel !fix 003.1572 The category gives away the answer. If you have typed it correctly the bot will notice you with a thankyou

Or if you want to add a question you would type the following command in the channel:

!add question Australiana: Name one of the two miners rescued from a Tasmanian Gold mine after being trapped for 14 days following a rockfall in May 2006*Todd Russell*Brant Webb

The bot will reply in notice with a thankyou.

Chanop & Nickop Help or Chanmoo and Nickmoo

What you will see in our help pages are only a small part of what is available to you through IRC itself

Type /msg chanop help in the status window and there is a whole screed of help available. Or /msg chanmoo help

Type /msg nickop help in the status window and again there is a ton of information available. or /msg nickmoo help

Remember these services are free and there are thousands of people online at the same time, and if you do /msg chanop (chanmoo) or nickop (nickmoo) too often they can get nasty and kick you off irc for what they term "flooding". It is a security issue so if the service warns you that you are flooding, slow down and let it set the pace

Scripts

We often get asked what is a good script to use. This really is a matter of personal preference, and what you want out of your mIRC programme.

Every script out there is just someone elses personal preference of what they wanted out of mIRC, the colour scheme they preferred etc.

I have always said, the best script, is the one you write yourself. Learn how to use mIRC and make it do what you want it to do.

The help with colours and sounds that we have added to this help file are the first steps to making your mIRC do what you want it to do.

Miscellaneous words of wisdom

Don't be afraid to ask for help with adding and changing stuff, but while you are learning how your own popups work don't annoy the hell outta people that want to play trivia. Feel free to type /join #Shawniesloft where you can test and play your popups to your hearts content

Hours and hours of hard work can be lost in a single click of your mouse. Its a good safety procedure to back up not only mirc, but all your folders, on a regular basis. But with mirc, save the *ini files in your documents on a very regular basis. That way if you do somehow kill your mIRC, its a very simple copy and paste to put all your popups back. (Which reminds me, its been a long time since I backed up the bot, mental note for when I get home).
